ORIENTATION WEEK Summer semester 2011/12

The Orientation Week for the new exchange students arriving to study at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in the Summer Semester will take place from Monday to Sunday 13 - 19 February.Classes in the Summer Semester 2011/12 at start on Monday 20 February.
The International Club team members have started to prepare some icebreaking activities for the Orientation Week and you are kindly invited to join! We are planning to introduce you to the city of Prague during some walking tours, city games and trips to the surroundings. A Welcome party and other socialising events are planned as well!
We are looking forward to meet you & get to know you :-)
You'll get detailed information at the end of January / very beginning of February from your faculty and from us. Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us!

TRIP TO SOUTH MORAVIA

Join us for a 4 day trip to South Moravia - a region of wine, history and beautiful countryside.
When: Thursday, November 17 - Sunday, November 20 (Thursday will be a national holiday.)
Programme:
Thursday 17th November: Departure from Prague early in the morning. We will first visit MIKULOV, a picturesque town and the centre of wine making situated by the Austrian border. A little bit of sightseeing in the town in the afternoon. In the evening we'll get to nearby village of PERNÁ - dinner and WINETASTING in a typical winecellar.
Friday 18th November : We'll visit BRNO - the 2nd biggest city in Czech Republic, the capital of Moravia region. Some sightseeing in the afternoon, clubbing in the evening.
Saturday 19th November : We'll leave from Brno in the morning and visit OLOMOUC (historical city, used to be the capital of Moravia and 2nd most important city of the kingdom). We'll get to Brno in the evening and go for few beers :-)
Sunday 20th November : We'll get some fresh air in Moravian countryside on the last day: visit of MORAVIAN KARST - the Macocha Abyss & Punkva caves; followed by a motor boat ride along the underground river Punkva. (Those of you who have boon on the trip to Bohemian Karst - the Moravian one is a lot bigger) . We'll get to Prague via Brno in the evening.
Accomodation: We'll stay in a family bed & breakfast above the wine cellar in Perna on the 1st night (breakfast included). On the 2nd and 3rd night we'll stay in university dorms in Brno. (They are much nicer than Hostivar or Hvezda, btw.)
Price: 2400 CZK (includes transportation, accomodation (dinner on Thursday, breakfast on Friday), winetasting, entrance fees on Sunday - to the caves and boat ride)

LONG WEEKEND IN SOUTH BOHEMIA - Český Krumlov included
Friday 28th October - Sunday 30th October
Come with the International Club and other international students to visit the southern part of this country – full of historical towns located in beautiful landscape. Let´s enjoy the long weekend outside Prague.
Programme:
Friday: Departure from Prague in the early morning. Arrival to TÁBOR - sightseeing in the old town, visit of the look-out tower. Departure to TŘEBOŇ. Visit of the local brewery producing beer called Regent. Short sightseeing and boat cruise on the pond Svět (depending on the weather).At the evening we'll get to Žumberk - accomodation.
Saturday: Hiking tour in the natural protected area called THERESIAN VALLEY. Visit of the town of NOVÉ HRADY located on the Austrian border. Night game :)
Sunday: Arrival to ČESKÝ KRUMLOV, a town on the UNESCO list. Sightseeing in the pictoresque town that has not changed much since the Renaissance Era. Optional visit of the castle. Departure to Prague in the evening.

The Orientation Week for the new exchange students arriving to study at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in the Winter Semester will take place from Monday 26th September to Sunday 2nd October.
Classes in the Winter Semester 2010/11 1 at Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Letters, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Education, 1st & 2nd Medical Faculties begin on 3rd October 201. (Might be a week sooner / later if you are studying at other faculty - please, check the schedule of the academic year on the webpage of your faculty.)

EASTER WEEKEND IN SOUTH BOHEMIA - CESKY KRUMLOV INCLUDED (April 22nd–25th)
Come with the International Club and other international students to visit the southern part of this country – full of historical towns located in beautiful landscape. Let´s enjoy Easter Holidays outside Prague. Monday is a religious holiday and classes are cancelled at majority of faculties on Friday too.
Programme:
Friday 22nd April - departure from Prague early in the morning. Arrival to Tábor. Sightseeing in the old town, visit of the look-out tower and catacombs. Visit of České Budějovice - the largest city of south Bohemia. Visit of the Black tower, sightseeing.
We will be accommodated in a small B&B pension in Novohradské Hory area for three nights.
Saturday 23rd April - visit of the town of Třeboň – we will split into two groups – one can visit the brewery and taste local beer called Regent. The second group will visit the local castle. Then sightseeing and cruise on the boat on the Svět pond.
Sunday 24th April - hiking tour in the natural protected area called Theresian Valley. Visit of the town of Nové Hrady located on the Austrian border. We might visit some Austrian villages too (the Museum of Iron Curtain) - to be confirmed. People who are not EU-citizens or do not possess Schengen visa might have a different programme.
Sunday 25th April – Český Krumlov, a town on the UNESCO list. Sightseeing in the pittoresque town that has not changed much since the Renaissance Era. There is a possibility to visit the castle as well.
Price: 2100 CZK (includes transportation, 3 nights in a bed and breakfast pension – breakfast included, entrance fees to the look-out tower, catacombs, Black tower on Friday, brewery or castle on Saturday and the cruise on the boat on Saturday)
